Will some one let me in on how the week goes by so fast? I'm mean really now, it seems like I was typing my last entry last night, and it was a week ago. Anyway, things have been drastically different from last week's entry.
Tuesday
I opened again, this time Amy and I did the drop me off, and I'll get a ride home thing. We had one car. Tuesday night, we were at home, bumped about something silly, when I look back at it, but at the time it was something we both felt passionate to pick sides on.
Wednesday
I caught a ride in with Bryce. He used to work for Old Chicago, and now working for Hacienda Colorado, Lakewood. It was a fun ride in, he was a bit late, but we got in and got what we needed to get done in time. I worked Kettles that day. I was excited about the experience in that HOH position and the fun it look likes like with Gustavo. Around 11:00 a.m. I was carrying the refried beans up to the line and I drop the beans. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but I tried to catch them as they were falling. One pan hid the floor and splashed up the beans on my arm and my face. You guessed it, I was burned. Silly me, I spent critical seconds cleaning up the mess, rather than cleaning myself off. I was sent off to a local clinic to take care of my "injury." What cracks me up about being there was both the nurse and the PA were grossed out about what they saw. How bad you ask? "It's a good type of 2nd degree burn." Anyway, the total area burned is 2.25 sq. in. They scripted me for some silvadene cream 1% (silver sulfadiazine) and said to apply it everyday and come back this week (we're in). I went back in, Amy left early to pick me up and we went to midweek/Gen-ext.
What was really cool was Mike called me from his training class, after Jody had talked to him about happened to me. That's what Discipleship is all about. That night wasn't that bad, I took a muscle relaxer and I was out until I had to go to work the next day.
Thursday
As things were getting a little easier with the one car thing, I had started to get comfortable with the fact that having one car for much longer would not be the wisest thing, and I had already accepted the fact we had to finance a car. The criteria was this: reliable, low mileage, last longer than the Corolla (if you can last longer than a Toyota), and we can take on road trips. I've learned this growing up under my father's roof, take a loan and work like a dog to pay it off quickly! At this point, Amy had already talked with our bank about car loans that was a joke. We had already planned on our Saturday to drive around town looking at cars. We went to the Bible Talk we are a part of (as well as attending teen ministry events) and enjoyed each other's company as we talked about Hosea and what a surrendered man of God he was. He was asked to remind the world about how it lives a promiscuous life, such as his wife did. Afterwards, the guys (Greg, Matt and I) studied the Bible with Boyega, in helping him get restored, if he needs to in God's judgement.
Friday
After discussing how to go about finding out where to go for cars, Amy and I headed out to Burt-Kuni Honda, because they had a car Amy really liked. After a long day at work again, we headed to the dealership to look at some cars. Long story short, we bought a '99 Chevy Malibu with 73k miles. We thought we were slick in talking the down a $1000 and then we bought GAP insurance and a 4/48k warranty as well. We felt good about purchasing all those things because GAP covers if car get totaled before we get the loan paid off and the warranty is just in case something happens. It's like health insurance for a car. Anyway, Amy is very happy, and I am more at peace about having a reliable car, but I now feel a little more of the pinch with $200 car payments and $40 increase in car insurance.
Saturday
All week we had planed on going to my old apartment to clean out a few things and clean my old bathroom, after all the things we had to do during the week, but with my arm bandaged up we didn't. Well, Peter had been there for the last month and a half since our original lease let up, and I left some things because he planned on living there until now, brought it home and had a joyful day. There was something about the day, because I tore up what I could in our jumbo closet, junked one Xerox paper box of stuff, moved and reorganized the shelves in our apartment, and this allowed me to place my hockey bag in there. At the end of the day, Greg and Kate, our neighbours, and Amy and I went to go see the new James Bond movie Casino Royale. It was long, but it was all Bond.
Sunday
The Denver Church of Christ finally celebrated it's 20th anniversary. I don't say this enough about church, but it was AWESOME! There was a fellowship time from 8:45 a.m. until the service started. Before that Greg, Boyega and I met for D-Group, as we fight to do every Sunday at 6:00 a.m. Anyway, the singing was great, the brothers who got to share the communion, contribution and the lesson were long time Denver Church Members. Some of there were there when they felt the call to leave the traditional church to form the Denver Church.
After that Amy and I had lunch with some friends. As I looked around, they were my friends who I have known since my campus days. At that point, I was tired and drained from seven straight days of early mornings and long nights. Amy had to head to Safeway, so I tried to nap in the mean time.
And now it's Monday! Lesson here, if this blog is mine, I need to maintain it, right?
