For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. John 5:18Okay, this is my thought during my quiet time today. In reading this passage, were the Disciples' lives in danger as well. I imagine like a James Bond type setting in Europe with the Disciples traveling around, using false documents to travel around. An opposing network that has both uniformed and undercover agents in search of miracles. Of course the Jews, following the Sabbath, allowed the Disciples to roam around at their leisure on that day, but otherwise six days a week they had to be careful for their lives.
Maybe it is more like the Bourne series where they have this amnesia type scenario, after getting baptized, and they are preaching the Gospel and searching for those they had wronged pre-baptism. The Disciples and Jews have this spy network thing going on, so they both know each other's move. Every once in a while a Jewish sniper has Jesus in his sights, but sees a miracle happen and just can not follow through with his orders to kill on sight. When Jesus ticks off the higher up agents, more and more snipers are out there.
It could be like the free humans in the Matrix, and the obvious parallels made about Neo and Jesus. Really though, from Matrix to Matrix Revolutions, the technology gets better and better, the agents out there are harder to overcome and the bad guys like the Twins make survival in the Matrix harder for the humans to survive on their free will.
The point is this, Discipleship to Jesus is a rough life. If the people around you are not taking offense to how spiritual you are or connected to Jesus, then your life is not in danger. Think about this, if Jesus was a 21st century man, what form would he take, where would he go, who around you would become his disciple. There are books out there that has made Jesus into a 20th-21st century man, but in your walk with God is Jesus the long bearded man in the tunic or the really sharp dressed man in the cool looking sunglasses? You decide.
