The man who is worthy of being a leader of men will never complain about the stupidity of his helpers, the ingratitude of mankind nor the inappreciation of the public. These are all part of the great game of life. To meet them and overcome them and not to go down before them in disgust, discouragement or defeat - that is the final proof of power. William J. H. Boetcker
How true is this quote for any leader? I know I have a hard time with people not putting forth enough effort, and I become quick to judge them and start to view them negatively. I'm not a inspirational quote junky, as a matter of fact, I have a planner with 365 inspirational quotes. I try to put them to the forefront of my mind along with what I learn in my quiet time as well.
The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him. Genesis 12:7
From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. Genesis 12:8
So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD. Genesis 13:18
With a eye catching quote, I'd like to steer you to this thought, what marks your times with God? I know, this is something you can't help but wonder what is going on in my life, nothing really, I heard this in a sermon from Kip McKean, from one of the evangelism seminars of the past. It is an important thing to think about in your relationship with God. As you look at Abram, he was hooked on marking those times with God, with building altars to honor God. We all have our special places to pray, but can you remember those prayers?
- I had issues with becoming a leader and missing events I enjoyed. I read my Bible came across a scripture to remind me about the challenges our ministry was going trough, and I went and prayed at the scenic over look on US-36 for about 45 minutes. My heart seemed to be right for answering the call to lead in God's Kingdom.
- My first date with my wife was at Lookout Mountain. We had dinner at Woody's in Golden and then headed up there to see the lights of Denver and pray a little. When Amy came out to Colorado for the summer the next year, we went up there to pray a few days before we sent her off to Boise for the upcoming school year.
- The first turn our on Flagstaff Mountain. This is a popular place for many Disciples in the Boulder/Louisville area. When I was studying the Bible, we headed up there after the prodigal son study and that was when I realize God was standing at the edge waiting for me to come to him.
- The roof of the Arvada building. We had a D-group up there with Steve, Jim, DeQuan and myself. We talked quite a bit and then prayed for the campus ministry and the impact the different campuses needed to have.
