Merry Christmas Eve

As the year comes closer to an end, I'll let you in on something I worked on for about five or six weeks, myself. It starts with Thanksgiving. One needs to start getting grateful for the blessings God grants them. The one day out of the year, where people in the United States feast on turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, pumpkin pie, etc, and forget how they were able to have this feast in the first place.

As Christmas season starts (if you are in Colorado it starts on All Saints Day) you start getting more and more greedy about the things you didn't get for your birthday, Mothers' Day, Anniversary, etc. and you start to covet what others received for Christmas. Christmas is about remembering the hope we have in Jesus.

We went to church today in Nebraska. It is a community church, the local ranchers actually support the preacher and his family to shepherd the flock out here. Kurt brought out a good point about this time of year. As time goes by, we need to experience Jesus at a higher height than we did last year. Imagine, if you will, being five years old. Santa was amazing. Zip forward to the frightful day in November when you found out the truth about Santa. This crash in your expectations of the Christmas season is what we do to Jesus every time we get into the mode of wanting, coveting, thirsting for what you desire. Until that time, you dreamed bigger and bigger of Santa and now you just hope some one gives you what you wanted.

What I do at this time is make the effort to take a spiritual inventory of the past year and see what I can do to ensure the heightening effect of my relationship with our Great Savior.
