We had our housewarming party last night and it went off without any issues. I believe I posted somewhere about the food I was planing to serve. My wife did an amazing job baking quite the spread of cookies, cakes and candies. I wanted to make sure that everyone who came by was able to enjoy their time in our home. One of the things we were both hesitant about, but encouraged by was registering for gifts. I, of course, registered for some spendy knives, because I'm a dreamer. We just picked some things to complement the goodies we've accumulated over time.
It was such a mish-mosh of people there: my wife's coworkers, church friends, Kung Fu students, neighbors and just good friends. This was one of the first major events my wife and I have been able to have together. In our old apartment we would not have been able to host more than one couple, maybe two in the old place.
After all the guests left, we sat there exhausted and grateful to God that we have a home such as this one, where we can host a party like we did. In Titus, Paul's charges Titus in his selection process of elders/overseers/lay leaders that one tangible quality is to be hospitable. I know for my wife and I, we've challenged ourselves to this since we were dating. As Bible Talk/Teen/D-Group Leaders, we both felt this is a quality 1. to imitate in Jesus, when you see him feeding the masses and 2. to make imitable for those you are trying to point back to Jesus. We both talk about how we need to invite other couples over, or try to go out on double dates with, and with our finances the way they are, it's hard to do, but we're resourceful enough to make something work out.
